Solution for Drop Down Menus Showing Behind Flash Movies

If your website uses horizontal drop down menus or vertical side scrolling menus that intersect with a Flash movie, the menus will show up behind the Flash movie making them non functional. There is an easy work around for this.

The image below shows an example of the problem. Notice how you can't see the drop down menu:

 

Here is what the drop down menu should look like:

 

The solution is to add a parameter to the Flash movie. To do this in Dreamweaver make sure the Flash movie is selected and click the "Parameters" button in the properties panel.

 

In the dialog box add 'wmode' and 'transparent' as shown here then click "OK"

 

The html code has now changed slightly in the param tag and the embed tag.

 

That's all there is to it. This process only needs to be followed if menu systems are showing up behind Flash movies. In addition if you're going to review the other movie regarding the Internet Explorer "Click to Activate" issue, you may consider doing this step first if needed. It might prevent a little typing.
