Video Creator - Upgrading Your Microphone and Sound Card

The microphone you use to make your recordings is extremely important.

Most computers come with a very simple and poor sounding microphone that is close to telephone quality. These microphones will work with the Video Creator software but if you want a professional sound you will need to invest in a higher quality microphone. Everything you've heard on this website was recorded with the setup shown below:

This is an incredible setup and costs under $250. This might seem like a lot but you're getting a professional grade microphone and sound card. The Roland Edirol USB Audio Capture Device sits right on the table and connects to the computer using good old USB (a standard connection method for printers, cameras, etc). I like it because I have volume control and microphone gain control each with its own knob. I took out the soundcard my system came with, but I probably didn't need to. There was no reason for two sound cards however. The software installation was straight forward and the quality is top notch. You can buy a wind gaurd if you want that protects the microphone from air hitting it when you make certain sounds. For example "p" often makes a "puh" sound in your recordings. Since I recorded my voice about a foot away from the microphone, I find the wind gaurd unecessary and isn't shown in the above picture.

If you're interested in the above setup or if you're looking for something less expensive you can contact the sales representative I use and trust at:

Or you can go to your local Best Buy or CompUSA to find a higher quality microphone. Any mic that you can attach to your computer will work so try them. I tested a microphone that came built into a monitor and it actually was fairly clean sounding. I was amazed.
